Imagine someone already documented the answer in a thread, and you ask the same question in the main channel anyway... π€¦ββοΈ
Thomas Middleditch didn't notice the thread with 7 replies explaining exactly what he asked. Now someone has to repeat the same information, or worse, point him to the thread he should have checked.
Most people who do this don't mean to waste anyone's time. It's a reflex: "I have a question, I'll ask in the channel."
But in busy channels, threads exist to keep information organized. Ignoring them means:
Check the threads first!
Before asking, look for threads. That little "7 replies" indicator is a goldmine of context and answers.
If you read the thread and still have questions:
Threads keep conversations organized. Using them shows respect for everyone's time and keeps the channel clean.
When done right, knowledge stays findable. π
