No ?

please check existing threads before asking again

Imagine someone already documented the answer in a thread, and you ask the same question in the main channel anyway... πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

❌ Don't do this

hey, can someone explain how to do a deploy?

Thomas Middleditch didn't notice the thread with 7 replies explaining exactly what he asked. Now someone has to repeat the same information, or worse, point him to the thread he should have checked.

Most people who do this don't mean to waste anyone's time. It's a reflex: "I have a question, I'll ask in the channel."

But in busy channels, threads exist to keep information organized. Ignoring them means:

  • Duplicated explanations
  • Fragmented knowledge
  • Frustrated teammates who already answered
  • Important context gets lost in the main channel noise

Check the threads first!

βœ… Instead, try this

Great, I'm going to read the entire thread

Before asking, look for threads. That little "7 replies" indicator is a goldmine of context and answers.

If you read the thread and still have questions:

  • Reply in the thread itself, not the main channel
  • Reference what you already read: "I saw X in the thread, but..."
  • Ask for clarification on specific points

Threads keep conversations organized. Using them shows respect for everyone's time and keeps the channel clean.

When done right, knowledge stays findable. πŸŽ‰
